LISD elementary and secondary students took an adventure beyond the stars! University of Texas at Austin associate professor of Astronomy Dr. Steven Finkelstein presented a lecture on the earliest formation of the galaxy to students titled “Our First Glimpse of the Earliest Galaxies with the James Webb Space Telescope.”
Dr. Finkelstein's lecture focused on the earliest days of the universe as captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. Afterwards, students had the opportunity to ask questions.
Congratulations to Gallego Elementary School Special Education Teacher, Mr. Jorge Flores for being named the KGNS October Teacher of the Month. Mr. Flores goes above and beyond daily with his students and extracurricular activities outside the classroom. LISD and Gallego Elementary are so very honored to have him as our educator.
LISD will be hosting a job fair next week on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the LISD PAC.
Auxiliary positions will have interviews on the spot.

Students at Garcia Early College High School participated in the Let's "Chalk" About Mental Wellness campaign. The Phoenixes used sidewalk chalk to leave positive and motivational messages of hope and encouragement throughout the campus to help those who are struggling with mental health. #PhoenixPride
Leyendecker Elementary School held a successful McTeacher's Night! Congratulations to the following Mighty Eagles who won the art contest and received gift baskets and gift cards provided by McDonald's San Bernardo Ave.:

The Christen Middle School National Honor Society, together with Student Council, collected teddy bears for the Webb County Sheriff's Office Share-A-Bear Project. The drive aims to comfort children who have experienced trauma through crime or natural disasters by providing them with a teddy bear.
It's Red Ribbon Week! The Santa Maria Elementary School Blue Jays had special guests visit their campus. The Webb County Constable Pct. 1 shared a special presentation to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students about saying no to drugs!

Laredo ISD goes pink! In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the LISD Office of Communications hosted its 14th Annual Employee Pink Walk in collaboration with the South Texas Food Bank. Administrators and staff donated non-perishable foods in contribution to the community.

The Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees dedicated the Milton Elementary School Library during a ceremony this morning. The library was named in memory of the late Anna Laura Herrera-Garza, the school’s librarian from 1993 to 2023.
The Herrera-Garza family, close friends, and former colleagues gathered to honor her life and the naming of this facility. LISD Board of President Monica Garcia, LISD Board Secretary Dr. Gil Martinez, and LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Rios addressed the audience.
