Goyo Lopez was elected to the Laredo ISD Board of Trustees for District 5 in November 2022.

Mr. Lopez is a native Laredoan and a 1986 graduate of Martin High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin on and off for 11 years, until he returned home in 1997.

Mr. Lopez who is a devout Roman Catholic, dedicated more than 13-years of service to the Diocese of Laredo and Bishop James Tamayo. He transitioned to work with the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Ministries of Laredo where he served as the Director of Development for Mercy Clinic and served as co-chair of the Laredo Health Coalition.

Mr. Lopez has a diverse skill set that has allowed him to work in many industries. His work experience ranges from public transportation to healthcare. He has worked in every medium of communication: print, television, and radio. 

In his spare time, Goyo volunteers his time with his parish of San Martin de Porres, ACTS Missions, as past PTO president of M.S. Ryan Elementary School, Border Olympics, WBCA Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade, WBCA Founding Fathers 5K Run, Ride & Wellness Fair, WBCA Youth Song & Dance Festival, the Alethea Talent Society, the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, and the Noon Optimist Club.

Mr. Lopez is also the voice of high school football in Laredo working as the public announcer at United ISD football games and is the producer & director of Faith & Football on KHOY 88.1 FM Radio. He also serves as the announcer for all United ISD basketball and baseball rivalry games, Border Olympics Track & Field, United ISD and Laredo ISD District Track & Field Meets, and for the UIL Regional Marching Band contest.

Mr. Lopez and his wife, Blasita, are devoted parents of four children.

"I accept this responsibility for our students, faculty, administration and taxpayers with the utmost respect and with the sole focus of making decisions in the best interest of these stakeholders," Lopez said. 

Mr. Lopez represents District 5 which includes Heights and Gallego Elementary Schools, and Memorial Middle School.
