Veronica V. Orduño is a product of LISD having graduated from Raymond and Tirza Martin High School, then receiving a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree with a double major in Mathematics and Spanish from Laredo State University in 1987. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree she dedicated herself to teaching the youth of South Laredo as a Secondary Mathematics teacher at Dr. J. G. Cigarroa Middle School for 35 years; being Mathematics Department Head/ Master teacher and Instructional Coach. Mrs. Orduño was also a UIL coach, served in various school committees, was a Cigarroa Golden Apple nominee, and served as a mentor for new teachers and student teachers.      

An active member of the community, Mrs. Orduño is the founder and president of Families for Autism Support and Awareness, a non-profit organization that brings Autism Awareness, Acceptance, and Inclusion to our community. Her son Ramon was diagnosed with Autism in 1995, and there was a great need to offer help to the families of children and adults diagnosed under the autism spectrum disorder. Seeing this need, she founded the Support group in 1999. This local Autism Support group serves the needs of families of children and adults diagnosed under the Autism Spectrum Disorder Umbrella.

Mrs. Orduño serves as a committee member on both the LC Health and Science Department and the Occupational Therapy Department. Furthermore, she is also a member of the San Antonio Area Foundation Scholarship Review Committee. Mrs. Orduño was awarded the first VAIL’s Disability Advocate Award and received the 2022 Hearts of Gold Awards – Excellence in Caregiving from the Gordan Hartman Family Foundation. In 2019, she was named the Paul Harris Fellow recipient for the Rotary Foundation and the Laredo Under Seven Flags Rotary club for supporting education.  She also serves as the chair for Laredo’s first Autism Coalition. 

Mrs. Orduño and her husband, Ramon Orduño, have three children: Ruben, Ramon Jr. (Tito), and Roel and the new additions to her family; daughter in law Michelle and grandson Noah.  

“As a former educator, I am honored to be given the opportunity to be part of the LISD Board ofTrustees. As a teacher, I know firsthand the many challenges that are faced on an everyday basisby everyone involved in the educational system; challenges that can be overcome by working together towards a common goal.”

Mrs. Orduno represents Brunii Elementary School, J.C. Martin Elementary School, and Sanchez Ochoa Elementary School.
