Heights Library

The Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees dedicated the new state-of-the-art Library and classroom wing at Heights Elementary School during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning.

LISD administration and Heights Elementary School administration, staff, and students filled the school’s library to celebrate the opening of the new educational facility.  LISD Board President Monica Garcia, LISD board member Goyo Lopez, LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Rios, and former LISD board member Dr. Minita Ramirez addressed the audience.

“Today is a day of great joy and celebration as we gather here to mark the opening of our new library, classrooms and additional office space. This momentous occasion represents a commitment to the future of education in our neighborhood community,” said Height Elementary School Principal, Adriana Padilla. “Our new library is a treasure trove of knowledge and imagination with an extensive collection of books, digital resources, and welcoming environment.”

“This library will be the heart of our school,” said Padilla. “It is a place where our students can explore new worlds, expand and foster a love for reading and learning that will last a lifetime.”

The Nixon High School ROTC, under the direction of Lt. Col. Bennie Feagin, presented the colors. Cigarroa High School student Adrian Zamora performed the National Anthem. Dovalina Elementary School students Alyssa Lopez and Sebastian Aldaco led the Pledge of Allegiance.

During the ceremony guests were treated to performances featuring the Heights Elementary School Cheer and Dance team directed by Maria Tijerina, Maria Sustaita, and Blanca Gomez followed by the Heights Elementary School Choir directed by Stephen Martinez. Guests also enjoyed refreshments and an open house after the ceremony.

“The additional classrooms are equally significant.  They symbolize our dedication to providing the best possible learning environment for our students,” said Padilla. “These new spaces are where our young minds will grow, where teachers will inspire, and where lifelong friendships will be forged.”

The new $3,091,580.00 state-of-the-art facility features a new library, four new classrooms, as well as an expanded teacher parking lot. The additions and renovations were designed by Design Group International and were constructed by Summit Building and Design.
