In recognition of International Week of the Deaf, the Laredo ISD Athletic Department recognized six Cigarroa High School students during the CHS Toros vs San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans football pregame, welcoming them as guests of honor. During the week, CHS and Daiches Elementary School students raised awareness by having informational lessons about deafness and hard of hearing, teaming up and wearing their favorite sports and band t-shirt, and having a sign language class where students could have a conversation with one another only using their hands. Dr. Leo G. Cigarroa High School is the only high school in Laredo providing services for Deaf Students. CHS, Cigarroa Middle School, Daiches Elementary School, and LISD are home to the Regional Day School Program of the Deaf also known as the (RDSPD Program). LISD is responsible for providing services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students from United ISD, Webb Consolidated ISD, Jim Hogg County ISD, and Zapata County ISD. As a whole, the district serves approximately 105 students in several different settings.
